Developed the original concept, strategy and business plan for ListenUP! Canada, and managed the Acquisition, Real Estate, Marketing, Advertising, and Finance functions. Responsible for overall executive direction, growth and competitive strategy. Built the company from scratch to 120 locations and then sold it to a strategic buyer.
Lownds was named Ernst & Young’s 2012 Entrepreneur of the Year (in Ontario) for Business to Consumer companies.
Developed the core business model, supported the successful start-up (including startup capital) and provided strategic direction and guidance to senior management of this TV production company. The business developed and produced original content in the non-fiction genre for specialty cable broadcasters in the U.S. and Canada. The company was sold to a strategic buyer in 2010.
As a founding partner and CEO, developed the concept, strategy and business plan, managed the Real Estate, Marketing, Advertising, Merchandising, and Buying functions, and guided overall direction and strategy from its inception through first five years. The business was sold to Bain Capital in 2000 and was taken private in October 2024 at a valuation of $1.7 Billion.
The company was recognized by Price Waterhouse as one of the Fifty Best Managed Private Companies in Canada in 1996, 1997 and 1998.
Kenrick specialized in originating and structuring leveraged and management buyouts, as well as conducting strategic management consulting assignments. Financial partners included CIBC Wood Gundy Capital, the Mannix family, and Wesray Capital of New York.
On behalf of Claridge Investments was responsible for evaluating the feasibility of a new electronic marketing venture for the Canadian marketplace.
Paradigm specialized in consulting assignments dealing with Competitive Strategy and Organizational Change Management. With partners Heather Reisman, Peter Cooper and Dr. Gerry Ross worked with CEO’s and Senior Line Executives on strategic change issues.
Managed the Strategic Consulting Practice for DMR, an information systems and computer technology consulting firm with over 400 consultants and offices across Canada and in the U.S.A., Australia and Europe.
Commenced business career at Consumers Distributing, managed a retail division of Hudson’s Bay, and operated as an Independent Management Consultant for five years.
